    PRESS RELEASE

“Black…” stands for resolved denial, the perpetual state of disbelief and resistance. It’s a state of mind with historical depth, going all the way “back then” to the black color of the ancient amphorae and reaching up to “now”, to the current awareness of tragedy, of existence. Thus, the overwhelming need to construct a contemporary, methodological and scientific example of “Aufhebung” is imminent; the search for an outright”Aufhebung” (overcoming) though art, based on an a modern and contemporary approach, mainly in line with Malevich’s suprematism; the consious quest for a structurally permanently negative aesthetic, as expressed in the art theory of Theodor Adorno; the recognition of the persistant urge, the pursuit of the perpetual other, the novel, the groundbreaking, the profound.

Black: the total absence of colour, the dismissal of sophistication, of that which is technically flawless, stylized, of affectation, of pseudo -aestheticism. Black is, always according to Malevich, the onset of a new historical -spiritual, liberating, futuristic- era, and at the same time, of an ideologically liberating and ideological evaluation. It’s a process of permanent release, as a state of “ejection”, of springing forward, towards a non-rationalized world, towards the uncovering and creation of a “non rationalized rational” (Adorno), with the aid of the spiritual element, whose agent is “Black..”

Thus states Vassilis Fioravantes, professor of the Philosophy of Art at the University of the Aegean and curator of the exhibition “Black..”, an emblematic group show, manifesting the significance of the color Black in the course of evolution, in the history of Art.
